ChorusLife is an urban redevelopment and regeneration project that, starting from Bergamo, aims to build a replicable model of interventions capable of regenerating the territory, in several sites in Italy. We have built an end-to-end vision, from the definition of the business and brand, to the design of physical and digital services.

We have collaborated in a multidisciplinary team made up of business, marketing and technology skills to support the complex system of needs linked to the opening of the smart district ChorusLife in Bergamo. In particular, our design contribution focused on building the vision of the services, up to their design and systemisation within the digital ecosystem. All supported by the brand values that we identified and synthesised within a complete and detailed brand manual.

The work done on the meaning and value of the brand, envisioning and prioritizing the services proposed for the opening of the district, and constructing ecosystemic functioning and relationship logic among the different tenants involved in the smart district, has allowed for the development of an integrated and seamless user experience across physical and digital channels.

Alongside the Politecnico di Milano we have evolved the experience of the university website, brand identity and communications towards its partners, with the goal of promoting sustainable and inclusive development, attracting students and faculty, communicating research results and collaborations with international companies.

Starting from the historic brand, we designed an integrated and coherent system that can meet the needs of a diverse and global community. A transformation that is essential to maintain and strengthen the institution’s international standing as a renowned leader in academic and technological contexts. The project solved technical, usability and brand architecture problems, building a strong identity that is representative of the values of the Politecnico.

The new ecosystem was designed to be coherent, consistent and inclusive, representing the different souls of the university according to four main pillars: brand, brand architecture, institutional website, and social media and communication strategy.
The rearrangement of digital properties simplifies navigation by offering an optimised user experience for different targets. The new brand architecture and the adoption of a new visual identity improve the institution’s global perception and strengthen its position as a leader in university education.

We helped Treedom design a mobile application to make it even easier and more transparent to contribute to the cause of reforesting the planet.

Treedom - Sketchin Projects

Treedom was founded in 2010 with the aim of building a greener and fairer world. Since then, more than four million trees have been planted in Africa, Latin America, Asia, and Italy. All the trees are planted directly by local farmers, and together with cooperatives and NGOs from around the world, they contribute to the implementation of environmental, social, and economic development projects. Treedom has decided to develop a mobile application to make it even easier and more transparent to contribute to the cause of reforesting the planet.

Thanks to the Treedom app, planting a tree remotely is easy and immediate. People can learn about the concrete benefits they can bring to the planet they live on and contribute by staying informed transparently about the progress of the agroforestry projects their trees are part of.

We supported Treedom in the initial strategic phase for the design, development, and design of the new app, which allows people to plant new trees in different parts of the world. The result is a more performant, secure, and seamlessly integrated native application with major operating systems.

SUPSI has strengthened its role as a centre of excellence for professional university education with a new digital strategy that provides tools and channels tailored to every cluster of university users. The aim is to enhance its services and its contribution to the development of the region.

SUPSI Digital ecosystem - Sketchin Projects

The traditional educational experience of those who are immersed in university life daily is amplified and enriched through digital channels and touchpoints designed in close collaboration with the SUPSI team who, following a number of meetings, has explored, understood and translated people’s needs into tools.

SUPSI now provides a consistent and contemporary digital experience on four different digital touchpoints, in addition to the already existing internal employee portal: institutional website, researcher portal, student internal portal and institutional newsletter. User research has allowed for the identification of design pillars to offer a meaningful experience to all the identified profiles.

Furthermore, we have assisted SUPSI in developing an internal process of analysis, troubleshooting and solution generation which ensures effectiveness and quality in anticipation of future interventions.

SUPSI has strengthened its role as an institution of excellence for professional university education with a new digital strategy offering tools and channels dedicated to each category of the university's users, with the aim of communicating more effectively with its numerous internal and external stakeholders, enhancing its activities and its contribution to the development of the region.

The plant-based meal plan that simplifies life

Planter subverts the idea that a plant-based diet requires a great organizational effort and does not easily adapt to every phase of life.

We have helped Planter realize the dream of a sustainable plant-based food style through a digital subscription service that enables you always to obtain different step-by-step recipes, balanced according to your lifestyle and personalized to family members' tastes.

Together with Planter, we defined the service's value proposition, starting from the market analysis and involving more than 35,000 people to understand their spending habits and food interests. We, therefore, designed the brand identity and the experience of the site's mobile app.

We created an intuitive and effortless experience by developing a design system aligned to their brand identity, capable of characterising the algorithm behind personalised food plans.

Planter is a new service offering a balanced, personalised and plant-based food plan tailored to users’ lifestyles and personalised to all family members’ needs. The plan offers a selection of more than 1400 vegan recipes created by Carlotta Perego from “Cucina Botanica”. Dr Silvia Goggi, a nutritionist specializing in Food Science and co-author of the plant-based diet guidelines, created the service's algorithm.

Strands aim to revolutionise its market positioning through a new business and product strategy. Through three collaborative sessions, we evolved its features-centric approach into a visionary Service Provider that will inspire banks and their customers thanks to engaging stories and concrete data showing their solutions' impacts.

We designed a new consistent Brand identity to communicate the Strands values. The website and the company profile are now expressions of a strong design strategy, that includes new positioning and solid design guidelines for future evolutions.

We helped Strands to Rethink its brand identity and positioning, increasing the effectiveness of the offer to face the continuous development of the market.

From the fascinating Borromeo Islands in Lake Maggiore to the peaceful and charming Mergozzo Lake, all the way up to the bewitching scenario of Orta Lake, where you can find the suggestive Island of St. Jules. Nature, art, and historical jewels make this one of the most beautiful tourist areas in the world.

Distretto dei Laghi needed to renew its identity without changing the brand logo and rebuild the web experience to give users an accessible tool to discover the area and plan activities.

We designed a new visual language based on typography. It represents the environmental contrast between lakes and mountains. After a research phase, we built the foundations of the new online customer experience, starting with the main website.

Discover how, together with Sogei, we built, tested and formalised a research framework based on Service Design and Design Futures practices for designing digital public services centred on the citizens' Life Events approach.

Using Life Events to design citizens's future services - Sketchin Projects

In Italy, less than 40% of online users actively use e-Government services compared to the EU average of 64% (DESI report 2020). A situation exacerbated by the silos logic of digital public services. 

As part of the project, we proposed to Sogei a methodology to improve communication, information and service sharing between public administrations by analysing and mapping citizens' Life Events. We used a design approach based on generating possible scenarios for the future PA while structuring replicable methodological practices for building new services.

To overcome the fragmentation of the experience Sogei tested through a pilot project a new design methodology based on the citizen's life-moments to design the new generation of digital public services.

Sogei undertook a three-month project to build, test and formalise a research framework based on Service Design and Design Futures to design digital public services centred on the citizens' Life Events approach.

Reshaping the marina industry standard - Sketchin Projects

A completely new and disruptive marina experience combining physical and digital to enhance the short-term customers' visits during high season and long-term customers' permanence within its surroundings.

The research phase during the first iterations let the team gather insights about the recent experience in the marinas to understand users’ pain points and expectations. This know-how led to the design of a new overall experience with a clear strategy for every customer phase. Five new blueprints are the base of an international training program, and new digital assets help convey the desired experience.

D-Marin asked us to evolve the marina experience by bringing new ideas and digital-oriented solutions to help them become a forerunner in an industry still struggling to embrace a user-centric approach.

We supported the spread of design culture within the public institution, the launch of an internal design unit, and the creation of the Design System, which has become INPS’s general visual language.

Demonstrating the design value within a complex context such as the Italian Public Administration is not an easy task. In the initial phase, Sketchin and INPS tested their collaboration through strategic and user-centered design activities which subsequently allowed them to structure frameworks, practices and work tools at an institutional level.

At the same time, we played a formative role: the stakeholders who took part in the co-design activities were able to understand different design methodologies and practices and apply them to future projects.

INPS wanted to structure an internal design unit, defining a manifesto, a working agreement and a working framework to be extended to all the Institute's teams and projects. At the same time, one of the project's main results was the creation of an evolved Design System open to the contribution of users and suppliers. The diffusion and correct application of the new visual language was achieved by defining design tokens and strategically supporting the definition of Design Governance, in which we guarantee the proper application of the Design System.

Silversea redesigns the cruise in the Galápagos on board the "Silver Origin" through an immersive travel experience that guides the passengers in a deep and emotional discovery

A hybrid journey inside the heart of the Galápagos - Sketchin Project

Silversea asked Sketchin to shape the contents, interactions, and spatial attributes of the Basecamp, the most peculiar feature of the Silver Origin vessel. The Basecamp is an interactive space which offers a new exploration experience to both guests and guides aboard the most luxurious cruise ship of the fleet, exclusively designed for the Galápagos.

Passengers can live a brand new idea of cruise thanks to a hybrid experience that connects on-site expeditions with life aboard the ship. The Basecamp is designed to make guests play with stories of the islands, get insights about their animals and share memories from their adventures, while becoming familiar with the itinerary.

A leading public IT services company and an Italian public administration agency wanted to rethink their document management processes, redesigning their practices, physical and digital tools and evolving their internal archiving culture. A future-proof framework to enable a radical transformation enabled by new technologies and aimed at efficiency and standardisation.

The archives of the Italian government office that participated in the project today suffer from fragmentation due to the widespread distribution of offices in the various municipalities and provinces throughout the country. The same files are managed differently depending on the office, despite the proposed national guidelines.

The archive system is complex and, due to the lack of regulation, chaotic. While initiatives such as the uniformity of folder labels show an interest in standardisation, the lack of control and the absence of a culture of good archiving prevent this.

The folder itself as a minimum storage unit can vary in form and content. The documents within it are not always useful for archiving purposes and the end the information on the coast is not always self-explanatory: there is no general coding standard.

Through envisioning, backcasting and technology scouting, the new vision of tomorrow's archive was outlined. Based on the storytelling, macro-areas of intervention were defined, on which to focus incrementally in the near future. 

A centralised system to optimise national archiving resources was envisioned, enabling communication and sharing between the different locations, defining a common language and processes, and making it possible to keep track of operations and monitor coded subjects in the archive at different times and places.

The archive as a highly efficient place, whose primary purpose is to make sure that everyone find what others have archived. The moment of archiving becomes an action, a ritual, of very high value for those who will come in the future.

A gas distribution infrastructure operator has launched a future vision project, using design thinking tools to imagine how the Internet of Things, also applied to industrial contexts (IIoT), is able to offer new opportunities, create value and offer increasingly efficient services. A leading player in gas distribution on the Italian market has launched a project envisioning the gas market of 2030 and imagined how this technology could transform its own role in that context.

The Internet of Things, also applied to industrial contexts (IIoT), is able to offer new opportunities, create value and offer increasingly efficient services. A leading player in gas distribution on the Italian market has launched a project envisioning the gas market of 2030 and imagined how this technology could transform its own role in that context.

Data - collected from the surrounding environment, from the infrastructure itself, from the workers and from third-party sources - and its analysis have been identified as the key to this future: collected according to precise criteria, processed and visualised, it becomes valuable information to feed improvement initiatives, new project lines and thus generate further value. 

Nine future scenarios have been identified and defined to understand how IIoT can enable the digital transformation of the company's business. Co-design sessions were conducted together with technology and business transformation partners to identify the areas of opportunity represented by IoT in future scenarios and to identify some high-level solutions in 4 specific areas of the company: Safety, Energy Transportation, Asset Lifecycle, Post-Energy transition.

Everyday signals, news and events reveal possible directions for future changes. Starting from these signals and the data that emerged, some desirable futures for the territory over the next 5 years were generated and represented through stories, created by citizens. 

The launch of the project was based on by ERSL and BAK Economics studies  ERSL's aims, impact and the macroeconomic portrait of the Lugano area. The SWOT analysis, made it possible to highlight the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats for the Lugano area, and to identify the main themes to build the subsequent workshops.

In collaboration with representatives of the municipalities, a series of development initiatives were identified for the area that were considered strategic for shaping the imagined future.

The generative activities were organised in three successive phases, through collaborative workshops.

By analysing the territory evolution, and by involving opinion leaders and local public administrators, the project provided the Regional Institution for the Luganese Development with a series of strategic initiatives, such as solid and effective projects, related to future scenarios, including analysis of needed resources and main constraints.

A collaborative process, desired by the Ente Regionale per lo Sviluppo del Luganese and realised together with BAK Economics, an independent Swiss economic research institute, to contribute to the definition of strategic initiatives for the Luganese area over the next years.

Cities are becoming increasingly extensive areas like metropolises and megalopolises, incorporating all other minor urban centres. Suburban and out-of-reach areas need a stronger transport network if they don’t want to remain completely isolated. Thanks to the definition of its electric bus vision, a global energy transformation company was able to set a strategy to develop a competitive offering and enter into the electric public transportation market.

Cities are becoming increasingly extensive areas like metropolises and megalopolises, incorporating all other minor urban centres. Suburban and out-of-reach areas need a stronger transport network if they don’t want to remain completely isolated. Moreover, cities are getting smarter, re-defining not only the urban spaces but also the way people move across the city: the data collected by the smart devices around the city can be leveraged on many different levels to deliver a better transport and improved services for municipalities and citizens.

A backlog of initiatives included within a design strategy have boosted a series of impacts and consequences that are currently affecting the company in several aspects: starting from a revision of the organization as is - a merge between different areas of competence or the creation of new ones in order to positively respond to the electric public transportation challenges.
